Virtual Baby Shower Games and Activities

1st Apr 2020

Virtual baby showers are a great way to get family and friends together to celebrate the arrival of a new little one. Virtual baby showers are popular with military families who have to move frequently, couples who moved away for jobs or schools or in times when it is just not possible to get everyone together in the same time and place. Planning a virtual baby shower does take some time and organizing, but if it is done right, it can be a memorable experience for all who attend.

One downside to hosting a virtual baby shower is that it can be challenging to have games and activities for the participants. Although with some advanced planning, you can definitely make something work.

Virtual Baby Shower Game Ideas

For virtual baby shower games, you should consider games that do not require the physical presence of the guests, so "bobbing for nipples" and "diapering the balloon" are definitely out! But there are plenty of baby shower games that will work long-distance.

Lots of baby shower games are in the form of game sheets, which are easy to send through the mail or as an attachment in an email. Some virtual game sheets definitely work better than others.

If you are sending physical invites for your virtual baby shower, then it could be easy to tuck some of the games below in with the invite. This can definitely get your guests excited about the event!

If you are sending electronic invites to your guests, then you can send the games separately as an email attachment so that your guests can print them out before the big day.

Check out our digital baby shower game shop where you can purchase digital copies of our most popular games that you can email to your guests!

Here are some ideas of some fun virtual baby shower games:

Who Knows Mommy Best? and Who Knows Daddy Best?

Games about the mommy- and daddy-to-be are always fun - whether it's in person or virtually! For these types of games, the guests will try to answer questions about the mommy or daddy - such as their birthday, their favorite beverage, their shoe size and more - and the person who gets the most correct wins! If you are hosting a co-ed virtual baby shower, then this could be a really fun game and might get a bit competitive depending on your crowd.

Guess Who? Mommy or Daddy

There's also another type of game that involves both the parents-to-be where guests try to determine if a question reflects the mommy or daddy more. The questions may be: who was the bigger baby at birth? Who sings lullabies better? Who would like more kids? And so on...this can be a fun way to focus on the parents rather than it all be about the baby.

Baby Shower BINGO

If you are planning a gift opening session for your virtual baby shower, then you might consider including a Baby Shower BINGO game along with the event. For this game, you can send your guests a blank bingo sheet that they will need to fill out before the gift opening portion of the event.

Guests will add a baby item that they think the parents will be gifted (this includes their own gift as well!) to each blank square, and as the parents-to-be start opening their gifts, guests will mark out the gifts that match the ones they wrote on their card. The first guest who gets a row completed (either horizontal, vertical or diagonal) wins the game!

Baby Shower Bingo Lumberjack Game

Diaper Raffle

Another virtual game that will help set up the parents for one of the biggest expenses of newborn care is hosting an optional diaper raffle. This will require some planning ahead for guests who want to participate. As it is optional, guests can choose to participate or not.

A diaper raffle is a game in which each person who contributes a pack of diapers (in any size and amount) will receive a raffle ticket. Guests can send the diapers directly to the parents to play. All the tickets go into a drawing and the person who has their raffle ticket drawn gets the grand prize!

Guess How Many?

Adding a guess how many game to your virtual baby shower can be a cute way to include a game across distance. For this game, you will choose a see-through container, like a glass jar, glass vase or empty baby bottle, then fill it with small items - like M&Ms, Skittles or other type of small treat.

Present the container at the beginning of the baby shower, let your guests get a good look at it, then present it again later and ask for everyone's guess as to how many of the items are in the container - the person with the closest guess wins!

Free Baby Shower Game Printables

There are also plenty of free baby shower game printables that you find online - check out our free baby shower game printables here.

With printable baby shower games, you can simply download them and email them to your guests prior to the virtual event. Remind guests to print out the game sheets a few minutes before the event so they're ready to play! This is a great low-cost and low-tech way to include some baby shower games with your event.

When choosing baby shower games to include, you might want to choose games where guests cannot look up the answer ahead of time. While it is probably the rare guest who will intentionally chooses to find the answers ahead of time, some guests just can't help but be curious!

Virtual Baby Shower Activity Ideas

Aside from baby shower games, a baby shower event is also a time to reflect on parenthood and get excited about the new adventures to come for the parents-to-be. A special way to congratulate the soon-to-be parents can be to offer some life advice or wishes for the new baby.

Virtual baby showers should be no different. There are a lot of keepsake cards and activities that guests can do to support the new parents. The only difference is that with a virtual baby shower, the host will need to take some extra steps to ensure that the guests can all participate by making it as easy as possible.

The best way to encourage participation in these baby shower activities is to include them in an invite to the guests, and to include a pre-addressed and pre-stamped envelope so that they can send the activity cards back to the new parents.

Extra points for the host if they do this without the parents-to-be knowing - just imagine the parents starting to receive these wonderful keepsake cards in the mail from all of their family and friends! What a wonderful surprise that would be!

Wishes for the Baby

Wishes for the baby are sweet keepsake cards for the parents and eventually for the little one. In this activity, guests are given prompts that they will fill out for the new baby, then sign their name at the bottom of the card. Guests can offer the new baby some awesome sage advice or offer fun and light-hearted advice. Either way, the parents will love getting all of these wishes back for their baby. It will certainly become a treasured keepsake for many years going forward.

Advice for the Parents-to-be

Offering advice for the parents-to-be is another great activity card that can easily be slipped into an invite and mailed back. With this activity, guests can reflect on their own experience as parents or as adults and offer advice for the mommy- and daddy-to-be. The advice could be serious and no-nonsense, it could be sentimental and sweet, it could be hilarious - who knows what the guests will come up with! Regardless, the parents will love receiving these little cards in the mail.

Predictions and Advice

Everyone loves making predictions about a new baby! Will the baby come early, late or be right on time? Will it be a big baby like it's father or a little one like it's mother? Will it look like mommy or daddy more? To harness in all of these predictions, you can offer guests a predictions and advice activity card that they can fill out for the parents-to-be. Most of theses cards also offer a space where guests can jot down some advice for the parents and their name.

Bonus: Prediction and Advice cards also work well if you'd to host a baby pool! A baby pool is when participants try to guess the birth date, weight and length of the new baby. The person who guesses the closest wins! You can have three separate pools for birth date, weight and length or just do one pool for the birth date.

For a baby pool, usually the guests will contribute a buck or two if they want to play, then whoever wins gets the pot. You can play it that way, just make sure that your guests know to send in a buck back with their predictions or you can just decide that whoever sends their predictions back automatically is entered with no money contribution and offer a prize yourself.

Virtual Baby Shower Game Prizes

Delivering prizes to your virtual baby shower game winners can be another little challenge, but can be easily overcome! As it is a virtual baby shower, you can offer digital gift cards as prizes.

Just keep track of your winners, then send them a digital gift card after the event. If you think your guests may like physical prizes, then sending them small gift baskets, flowers or candies after the event can also work.

An advantage to hosting virtual baby shower games is that you don't have to choose the prizes ahead of time, so you have some leeway on the prizes, which can be great because you can select very special prizes for your winners.

For example, if your bestie won the baby shower bingo game and you know she's been hankering for the new book from her favorite author, then you can choose that as your prize! If your mother-in-law won a game and she is a frequent guest to her local coffee shop, then getting a gift card from that specific coffee shop can be a fun surprise.
